Cyanotype Ceramic Hearts
This piece comprises bisque-fired Laguna B-mix clay and cyanotype emulsion at a 1:1 ratio.
The sculpture was exposed multiple times from photo negatives I printed through an inkjet printer, a bone chewed by Harley and a piece of fabric with ripped holes and frayed hanging bits once a blanket. With this process, I was able to merge our artistic abilities, capturing a design from altered materials by both Harley and me.
I am delighted with the finished piece for the overall look, as well as the process I went through to get to this. It was very healing to make this artwork, which was something I needed.
I also spent lots of time this term figuring out how to get the emulsion to work on the ceramic surface adequately, especially when using 3D forms. With lots of trial and error, I was able to get to this. Although there are some areas I wish would've turned out better, for me, it shows my learning process, and I am grateful for the opportunity to experiment and learn creatively.
